Spare-Time Fun

I have many hobbies. I love to fish. My favorite place to fish is the Atlantic Ocean. I love the feeling of being on the open water and drift fishing or trolling. Trolling is when the boat is moving at idle speed with the line in the water and if you’re lucky, you might find a marlin or wahoo on your rod. When I fish the Florida Keys, it is a whole different experience. The water is flat and peaceful. Fishing in the Keys is one of my family’s favorite activities. The fish are not as mighty as they are in the ocean, but we normally come home with a delicious dinner! My favorite part of fishing with my family is baiting and casting by myself. Knowing that I can bait and cast on my own gives me a sense of pride.

Another favorite activity of mine is playing musical instruments. I play violin, saxophone, and I am teaching myself how to play the piano. I love the violin because it is very peaceful and I love how it sounds. I like to play the saxophone because I love jazz and playing sax offers me the opportunity to play the music I love. I like to play the piano because it is easier to play songs from movies on the piano on the violin or sax. One of my favorite things to do while playing piano is trying to figure out which notes make up a song. Overall, I love my instruments.

I have been told that I am very good at playing golf. I am not such an athletic guy, but golf is the closest way I will ever get to a gold medal. I love that it is a calm sport. I also like both the feeling and sound of the whack of the club hitting the ball followed by seeing the ball flying into the air. Playing golf has always been a part of who I am. Most 13 year-olds like very different things than me. I am Benji; my brain operates on a different course than most of my peers. I love who I am.
